Personal Journey

My cancer journey began with shock, fear and confusion. When diagnosed I was in the 11th month of a year-long yoga teacher training program.  Strong and healthy… except I had cancer.  During treatment I felt powerless, at the mercy of the medical system and the amazing humans intently focused on me and saving my life.  When it was over, I slowly healed from the physical trauma of surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation.

I understood that my life was different but I felt trapped trying to squeeze into the old normal.  Inside I suffered silently and alone dealing with the long-term side effects of my treatment.  I felt wildly disconnected to my self, my body, my meaning and my purpose.  For 17 years I lived with this inner conflict.

And then my life shattered again. It is unfair to say my marriage ended because of my inner struggle after cancer but I will admit it was a factor. From those shattered pieces, I began my long road of healing. On it I discovered and became passionate about positive psychology, post traumatic growth and self discovery. Through this work I found my way back to me. A path I remain on but happily seek others to join on this journey to our highest potential.

I am active and enjoy regular Pilates, yoga, and meditation practices. Adventure and travel are two of my top priorities. Nature is my playground and music moves me. Most importantly, I am honored to be the mother of two young men and so blessed to be here on this earth and able to witness them sharing their genius with the world. We enjoy grand adventures together.

Carved by Cancer™
A Network for Survivors

In surviving my own battle with cancer, I realized there were few resources available for those of us who want to make the most of our second chance. I created Carved by Cancer™ as a way to provide community and resources, but also to start advocating for changes helping transition from patient to the control of survivor and freedom of survivorship. You can join our free community, connect with others, learn at your own pace, and access self-guided courses.
